An interactive automated adaptive software and intervention tasks for re-education of dyslexia and development of reading skills.
The project aims to create cooperation between the Pedagogical and Psychological Counselling Centre, the library network and parents. It is based on current pedagogy, statistics, psychology, optometry and IT knowledge.
DeveLex is based on the principle of tracking eye movements
The advanced computing module enables real-time adaptation to the child's current level of ability, making use of the proximal development zone principle.
The project includes not only IT solutions, batteries for re-education and development of reading skills, but also adaptation and development of the whole system of care and services in dyslexia intervention.
The project responds to a society-wide phenomenon of inequality in education related to various disadvantaged groups. The project is based on the 2030+ Strategy, which aims to change this situation. This state of affairs relates, among other things, to the ever-increasing number of pupils diagnosed with dyslexia, as well as the gradual decline in reading literacy among primary school pupils due to a lack of access to digital education, which became apparent during the covid-19 pandemic.
Literacy is an essential component for students' education as well as their emotional and psychosocial development. There are different approaches for re-educating dyslexia and developing reading skills. The more thoroughly this intervention is implemented, the greater the chance for improvement. However, a crucial part of such an intervention is easy accessibility for pupils and their parents, which can be achieved in cooperation with libraries, as the Czech Republic has the densest network of libraries in the world, which can ensure easy and effective intervention for these groups.
The workshop introduced the concept of a solution for the re-education of dyslexia and the development of reading skills, based on eye-tracking technology. Eye-tracking is not only a tool for monitoring the reading process but also serves as a user interface. A significant challenge is to design the resulting system in a way that can be widely implemented in institutions, such as libraries. Workshop organized within the TAČR Sigma project "Reeducation of Dyslexia and Development of Reading Skills Using Eye-Tracking"
The main goal of the workshop is to introduce the concept of a comprehensive system DeveLex, which is aimed at dyslexia intervention based on three key parameters: adaptability, scalability and interactivity of the system to support dyslexic reading, taking into account the needs and variability of dyslexic children's reading progress. The DeveLex system will then be implemented in libraries and a discussion with the professional public (librarians) will be carried out during the workshop.
